I really need to get better at posting here. What happened? hahaha
Yesterday was Open House at the vet school here. So many things to see! I had a guide dog in training with me, which was awesome! She's my favorite and I loved spending the whole day with her. She was probably petted by at least 50 children and she loved the attention. And I enjoyed talking to people about The Guide Dog Foundation. :)
We got to see a zebra, a camel, falcons and lots of other animals. I took a tour of the teaching hospital and watched a herding demo. I also bought a shirt for my bf. I hope he likes it. I'll see him later today, so we'll see.
I've been shadowing at the large animal teaching hospital and it's been great! I am with the third vet now, but sadly her rotation ends tomorrow. I learned a lot of things with her, but I am also excited to be back with my first vet here. She is awesome, too. She wrote me a recommendation letter for the vet school guarantee program and I am very thankful for that! I should hear soon if I will have an interview for this program. I really hope so, because I think it is a wonderful program!
I've been doing some research on the internet about different topics related to food animals and right now I am focusing on holistic medicine. I like the idea of alternative medicine used on food animals instead of using certain types of medicine that can leave residue in the meat, milk, etc.
I am very excited about getting new books also. I now have the Veterinary Clinical Advisor: The Horse and I also bought Saunder's Veterinary Anatomy Coloring Book. I learn very well by drawing the different structures and am hoping that this book will help. There are more than 300 drawings about horses, cows, chickens, dogs and cats. I love it. I absolutely love making my collection of books bigger!
It looks like I will be officer for the Dairy Science Club next semester. I am trying to come up with different activities to do for the club and hope the members will like them. I am also wanting to talk to the new class over the summer when they have their orientation sessions. I was thinking about bringing in a vet to talk to us about medical care regarding dairy cows, a farm manager, doing a hands-on lab with calves, etc. I hope these things will all work out!
I'm also hoping to become an officer for the Horsemen's Association. Elections are soon and I would love to be on the officer team for the upcoming year!
I am getting my first guide dog puppy this summer! Hopefully it'll be a Poodle or German Shepherd, but any puppy will be welcomed with lots of love!
I'm taking summer classes, am looking for a vet/animal related job and am hoping to do research at the vet school. This will be a busy summer!
We are currently looking at houses to buy. Hopefully I will be here for at least seven more years and it's be a waste of money to rent this entire time. We found a house today that is wonderful. The location isn't the best (it's a bit far from campus), but it's not too bad. Also, the vet school is moving to a different place, which will be much closer to that house then. If we can bring the price down a bit, we are taking it! It's beautiful and has a backyard for my boyfriend's work and the new dog. I really want to get it soon, so I can have it ready when I get back from Germany this summer and start summer classes.
I am going to Germany this summer to visit family and work with a veterinarian over there. I am very excited to do so and hope to learn many new things with him!
I think this is enough updating for now and I will try to post more in the near future. It's been exciting in the last few weeks and there are more great things to come!
This is the beautiful girl I had with me for the open house! I've had her for a whole weekend before and fell in love with her.
